The Bexley Compact
The first Compact was an agreement between the Government and the Voluntary Sector made in November 1988 to improve the relationship between the two sectors for mutual advantage.
Local compacts were then developed to improve partnership working locally between the Voluntary Sector, Councils and other partners,
Bexley Compact was launched in 2003 between the Voluntary Sector, as represented by the Voluntary Forum, the London Borough of Bexley Council and Bexley Care Trust. It included values, principles and commitments to guide the relationship between the voluntary and statutory sectors and to help to build effective partnerships. In 2006 it was updated and relaunched and included the Bexley Police as a new partner.
A local Compact Working Group which includes representatives from the Voluntary Forum meets regularly to implement the Compact and in 2010 the Group significantly refreshed and updated the Compact. The new version was then endorsed by the Local Strategic Partnership which includes the Voluntary Sector and key statutory and business partners.
The revised version contains a dispute resolution procedure to address any concerns that the document has not been implemented correctly or fairly.
