Since 2011, The Corporate Small Grants Scheme has been administered by Bexley Voluntary Service Council on behalf on Bexley Council. The total amount of funding available is £25,000 and groups are able to apply for up to a maximum of £2,000.

The small grants scheme will provide funding for new or innovative projects, one-off projects or activities, development costs and one-off investments or purchases that will assist the council in delivering its key priorities. Please refer to the information in the application pack for full details of these key priorities.

We look forward to receiving your application. If you have any questions, please contact Olwyn Sinclair, Development Manager at BVSC on 020 8304 0911 or email osinclair@bvsc.co.uk

Volunteer Centre Quality Accreditation (VCQA) for Volunteer Centre Bexley!

Lynne Regan, Manager of Volunteer Centre Bexley, is very pleased to announce that the Centre has achieved Volunteering England’s quality accreditation for Volunteer Centres – VCQA. VC Bexley was one of 11 London Centres who recently submitted their portfolios to meet the first round deadline – the remaining 19 Centres have requested an extension to September. The Quality Accreditation looks at how the Centres are delivering the six core functions of a Volunteer Development Agency which are as follows :- brokerage; marketing volunteering; good practice development; policy response and campaigning; strategic development of volunteering. Each Centre is required to prepare an portfolio of evidence against specific indicators for each core function to show how they are meeting the requirements for a Volunteer Development Agency.

The pass rate was 36% and this means that VC Bexley is currently one of only a handful of London Volunteer Centres who are Quality Accredited. The external VCQA Assessor’s summary of the portfolio evidence submitted by the Centre is given below:-

This is an excellent submission. The research report is through and informative. The portfolio is well presented containing relevant and appropriate evidence. The evidence demonstrates that the VC is delivering all core functions to a good standard with some exemplary work.

In particular the information on policy response and campaigning activity on a range of issues at different levels demonstrates that the VC is actively and consistently involved in delivery of this core function demonstrating exemplary activity in this area. The campaign against Orchard Theatre substituting volunteers for paid staff is an important issue that was well chosen and documented, receiving good coverage in a range of media.

Substantial and impressive evidence has also been submitted in respect of the strategic development of volunteering through engagement with key stakeholders in the planning and delivery of NI6, ChangeUp and the Olympics.
