Many people in our communities are already helping ot hers\, sharing skills\, offering support and makin g a difference — but they may not see themselves a s “volunteers”. These hidden helpers can be an inc redible source of energy\, knowledge and community connection\, but traditional volunteering opportu nities do not always feel accessible\, relevant or welcoming to them.

This free\, inte ractive workshop is designed for volunteer manager s\, coordinators and anyone involved in recruiting \, supporting or developing volunteers. The sessio n will explore how we can better recognise hidden volunteering\, understand what may stop people fro m coming forward\, and think differently about how we design and promote opportunities.

During the workshop\, we will look at:

Who the hidden “volunteers” in our communiti es might be

\n \n

Why some people are alre ady helping informally but do not join formal volu nteering opportunities

\n \n

Common barrie rs that are not always about time\, cost or flexib ility

\n \n

How a different approach to co nversations and role design can improve volunteer engagement

Practical ways to identif y barriers and open up volunteering to more people

\n \n

The session will also include a sho rt practical exercise to help participants “meet” a hidden helper in their community and consider wh at might make volunteering feel possible\, relevan t and worthwhile for them.

This is a great opportunity to step back\, reflect on curre nt recruitment approaches and explore how small ch anges could help more people see a place for thems elves in volunteering.
