Suitable for: This workshop will be of use to volunteer managers, and anyone within a volunteer-involving organisation who needs to know where they stand legally in relation to their volunteers, such as general managers or trustees Content: |
Do you know where you stand legally with your volunteers? The legal position of voluntary workers can look complicated from the outside – some areas of law impact on volunteering, while others completely ignore it, leaving volunteers without protection from unfair dismissal or discrimination. This training will give you an overview of the relevant law in plain English, focusing on practical lessons to draw from the information. It will cover:
Avoiding employment relations with volunteers
Health and Safety
Safeguarding and DBS checks
Expenses and benefits
Involving ex-offenders, people from overseas and from different age groups
Delivery method:
Given the nature of the topic this course is less formally interactive than our other workshops, but attendees will be encouraged to ask questions and given examples of relevant case studies.
Learning outcomes:
By the end of the training attendees will:
have a good understanding of the general legal position of volunteers.
know key steps to take to avoid creating employment relationships
understand their health and safety and safeguarding responsibilities
be aware of issues related to specific volunteers, such as benefit claimants
