BVSC Funding ebulletin- June 2020

Welcome to June's edition of the funding bulletin. We know it's June and all plans of holidays are gone, and to top it off its raining- yay! So to bring some happiness we thought we would bring you a list of funding straight to your mailbox so you can just click and apply. Easy Peasy!


Funding training

  • Institute of Fundraising- Fundraising Convention 6-8 July over 80 on-demand sessions delivered by expert speakers and curated by fundraisers. Be quick tickets sell out fast
  • The FSI 1st July training covering a range of topics including Developing your fundraising stratey and Developing your case for support.
  • CNT Associates are running a series of new, free funding webinars via Zoom over the next few weeks.

Covid 19 Funding

One of the categories which are included in the scheme are charities in rateable premises of up to £15k. There is a maximum grant of £2,500 per eligible charity.  Allocation of grants in this category will be on a first come, first served basis.

You must select your eligibility from the following criteria:

  • has less than 50 employees (staff headcount) across the whole business
  • has significant ongoing fixed property costs (e.g. rent, commercial mortgage payments, service charges etc) 
  • has experienced significant (i.e. 50% or more) loss of income during the Covid19 lockdown period
  • small charities (in premises with Rateable Value (RV) of £15k or less

Note that the scheme won’t be open for applications (via online form) until Thursday 18 June 2020 and there will be an application window of up to 2 weeks. 

  • National Lottery Community Fund's 2 funding streams:
  1. COVID-19 Funding under £10,000: £300 – £10,000 grants to support people and communities affected by COVID-19 and organisations overcome acute financial difficulties. 
  2. COVID-19 Funding over £10,000  Grants of £10,000 – £100,000 for up to six months of expenditure to support people affected by COVID-19 or to fund organisations that are affected
  • BBC Children in Need- COVID-19 Next Steps Grant Deadline 1st July. Eligible organisations can apply for grants of up to £80,000 to deliver support for children and young people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Projects need to commence in September 2020 and can last for up to 18 months.
  • Funding to Support the Most At-Risk Young People Affected by Covid-19  Themes are: abuse, addiction,  homelessness, and for those supporting young child carers. Grants of up to £2,500, which can be used for overheads, salary costs, and/ or wherever else the organisation needs to apply the money to ensure its survival and sustainable services in the future.
  • Austin and Hope Pilkington Trust Reviews Grant Criteria in Response to the Coronavirus 1st July-31st July Supporting disadvantaged and vulnerable people aged 60 and over affected by the crisis. UK registered charities with an income and expenditure of £1,000,000 and over will be able to apply for grants of £1,000.
  • The Foyle Foundation’s Small Grants Scheme Re-Opens to Support Charities Affected by Covid-19 (UK)  Applications can be submitted at any time. Organisations which are currently delivering services to the young, vulnerable, elderly, disadvantaged or the general community either directly or through online support can apply for grants of between £1,000 and £10,000. 
  • Asda Foundation Launches Two New Grants  View Grant Criteria & Info here  Applications can be submitted at any time - Grants of up to £500 are available per group, and up to £1,125 per store
  • £10 Million Fund for Domestic Abuse Charities The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has re-opened the Domestic abuse safe accommodation: COVID-19 emergency support fund.  During this funding round a total of £1.85 million will be available. The fund will help ensure that: Safe accommodation services can continue operating and keep bed spaces open for victims and their children fleeing from abuse during COVID-19 emergency. 
  • Sport England is Seeking to Support Innovative Projects Deadline 24th June  Sport England has launched a new programme to support innovative projects that reduce inequalities and help those most affected by the impact of coronavirus to get active. Projects should address at least one of these challenges: Changes in circumstances, Mental health, Digital exclusion.

  • Funding to Support Legal Action Related to Covid-19  Deadline 12pm 11th AugustBaring Foundation has announced three new funding streams as part of its £1 million Strengthening Civil Society Programme. Grants of up to £40,000 are available to all registered charities, including current grant holders, with legal expertise in the area they work in to help protect vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals from the impact of covid-19.  Two further streams of funding will support both current grant holders and other previous funding recipients with grants of up to £5,000 to help organisations severely affected by the coronavirus, and grants of up to £30,000 to help with the increase in demand for advice from frontline organisations

  • Resilience and Recovery Loan Fund for Charities & Social Enterprises (UK) Applications can be made at any time. Social Investment Business have launched a Resilience and Recovery Loan Fund for social enterprises and charities which have been adversely impacted by the pandemic. Emergency loans of between £100,000 to £500,000 without requiring personal guarantees and charging no interest fees or interest for twelve months. The Fund is intended to provide working capital until normal business can resume for organisations that are facing financial difficulty. Applications can be made at any time.


General Funding

  • Funding to Support Projects Which Benefit Local Communities 28th June 2020 Grants are available for small, locally based voluntary and community groups to support projects which benefit local communities centred around Co-op Food Stores and funeral homes across the UK. The Co-op Local Community Fund will fund projects which help local communities come together to help those in need by providing access to essentials such as community spaces, food and bereavement support; support the mental or physical health of a community through wellbeing activities; or help people develop skills to nurture community spirit and create sustainable communities.

  • Project Development Funding for Churches Deadline 10th September 2020 Grants of between £3,000 and £10,000 are available to listed and unlisted Christian places towards developing a church building project. This includes Churches, Chapels and Meeting Houses. The funding is being made available through the National Churches Trusts Gateway Programme. The Gateway Grant Programme also offers grants of between £3,000 and £10,000 to local church trusts to fund projects that support organisational development, increase their capacity to churches in their area or that deliver new ways of supporting churches in their area.

  • Independent Age Grants Fund Deadline 2nd July  Independent Age has launched a £2 million Independent Age Grants Fund to help smaller charities working with older people living in particularly complex and challenging situations. This can include older people that may have no network of family, friends or community to call on; have a disability or long-term health condition; be caring for a dependent adult with learning disabilities or dementia or older people in danger of being out of sight and out of mind, organisations connecting with older people who are very isolated and most at risk of missing out on the help available from government or charities that serve a very wide client group. Organisations must be already working with older people in one or both of the two priority areas above as part of their broader work. Grants of up to £15,000

  • Grants of up to £1,000 avaliable for Projects that Improve the Wellbeing of Children 5pm 17th November Grants of up to £1,000 are available from the Les Mills Fund for Children, to registered charities who work to improve the education and physical and emotional wellbeing of children. If you have any questions, please email grants@dmtfyp.org or phone 020 7605 767 Grants application form Grant report template
