Silvia's Story

Silvia didn’t get out much before volunteering, she was getting quite isolated and was sitting at home and getting bored.  She has been volunteering at the VSP allotment in Crayford for over 8 months now,

Silvia says, “I look forward to going there and it gives me something to get up for in the morning.  I find it very relaxing and peaceful and really like Jim who runs the allotment, I think he is very good and he always makes it fun”

“I felt the support worker was very good because she listened to me and my concerns and helped me find a role where there weren’t too many people as I don’t like crowds.

“The support worker helped me to find a placement near to where I live so I can walk to it, which is good exercise for me. I mostly enjoy planting vegetables and through volunteering I now really love gardening.  I was able to borrow some tools from Jim and took them home and started to dig over a small patch where I live to make a garden, so now I have started growing my own vegetables”.

“I feel that volunteering has helped build my confidence and I really enjoy seeing the other people; I now feel ready to find some more volunteering to fill my week”.
