Supporting Volunteers: Building Confidence in Volunteer Supervision and Management
This interactive training session explores the foundations of supporting and supervising volunteers effectively — whether you’re a paid member of staff or a volunteer supervisor.
The workshop takes a practical look at best practice in volunteer management, helping participants build confidence, strengthen relationships, and resolve challenges constructively. You’ll gain the skills and tools to create a positive volunteer experience while maintaining healthy boundaries and promoting inclusion.
Learning outcomes:
By the end of the session, participants will:
- Understand the key principles of good volunteer management and supervision.
- Know how to have supportive 1:1s and provide constructive feedback.
- Develop approaches to managing difficult conversations and resolving conflict.
- Explore equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in volunteer engagement.
- Recognise the importance of boundaries and professionalism — especially when supervisors are volunteers themselves.
- Feel more confident in their role as a volunteer supervisor or coordinator.
The session will include:
- Interactive discussions and “what would you do?” scenarios.
- Case studies based on real-life volunteer experiences.
- Practical models for conflict resolution and communication.
- Templates, supervision checklists, and a take-home reference guide.
Who should attend:
Anyone who manages, supports, or supervises volunteers — including team leaders, coordinators, or experienced volunteers with leadership responsibilities.
