Community Resilience & Preparedness
Local voluntary, community and grassroots organisations in Bexley are invited to take part in upcoming community resilience and preparedness sessions, supported through BVSC.
Communities are increasingly affected by extreme weather, which can lead to power, water and communications outages, alongside challenges such as public health emergencies, major incidents, and periods of heightened social tension. VCSE organisations are often trusted, frontline support during these times.
These sessions will:
- Help organisations think about who may be most at risk in their communities
- Share practical approaches to preparing, communicating and supporting people safely
- Provide space to consider the safety and wellbeing of staff, volunteers and community members
- Enable organisations to learn how to develop and complete a simple Community Resilience Plan by the end of the sessions
- Create opportunities to connect with other local VCSE organisations
The approach is practical, inclusive and strengths-based. No prior emergency planning experience is required.
This opportunity is particularly relevant for organisations working with older people, disabled people, families, minoritised communities, people on low incomes, or those experiencing isolation.
You will be asked to complete a short mapping task before the day to help inform the plan and make the day go smoother, a template will be provided.
