Role Description

Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice is a local charity which serves the London Boroughs of Greenwich and Bexley.   The Hospice provides community, hospital and inpatient specialist palliative and supportive care to people with terminal illness and their families within the London Boroughs of Greenwich and Bexley.  We are seeking an experienced, energetic and motivated Volunteers Manager to join our team.  If you want to make a difference by supporting the Hospice to develop and implement our volunteering strategy so that we the whole community are supported to access quality, compassionate palliative and end of life care; we would like you to get in touch.

 

Working as part of the Hospice’s Management Team, the Volunteers Manager will lead on the development of the Hospice’s Volunteers Strategy, providing advice and support on best practice, innovation, potential funding opportunities and volunteering development across the Hospice. The post holder will support managers in the recruitment of volunteers in line with strategic, operational and departmental needs.   

 

Experience in Volunteer Management within the charitable sector is essential, including experience of volunteer recruitment, retention and development. The successful applicant will also have experience of designing and delivering training; as well as knowledge of current volunteering practice and be an approachable and confident communicator who wants to make a difference in the local community.   Previous experience of line management would be advantageous as the role has one direct staff report, and line management responsibility for two volunteer led services.

 

With around 500 volunteers, the ability to prioritise effectively and to think creatively is important, with experience of policy development to ensure our practices are as efficient as possible.  Experience of community development and an understanding of community networks is essential, as is an understanding of equal opportunities and the ability to engage fully with the local community, raising the profile of the Hospice as a great place to volunteer.
