Become a Trustee with Carers Support Bexley

Trustee Opportunity with Carers Support Bexley
Role Description

Since 1994, Carers Support Bexley have supported unpaid carers across Bexley through information and advice, respite, wellbeing services and advocacy. Their vision is a borough where every carer feels recognised and supported, and can care without sacrificing their own wellbeing.

As a Trustee, you will help shape the future direction of the charity, ensure we remain accountable, oversee their resources and support their long-term sustainability. The role focuses on strategic oversight rather than the day-to-day management of the charity.

You do not need to have been a Trustee before. They welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and value lived experience just as highly as professional expertise. Induction, training and ongoing support will be provided.

They would particularly like to hear from people who can bring:

  • Lived experience of caring or knowledge of local communities
  • Fundraising, income generation, philanthropy, corporate partnerships or bid-development experience
  • Finance, legal, HR, governance or safeguarding knowledge
  • Strategic thinking and sound judgement
  • A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
  • The ability to work collaboratively and respectfully

The commitment includes four Board meetings each year, attendance at their Annual General Meeting and reasonable time to read papers and prepare for meetings. There may also be opportunities to become involved in optional sub-groups or projects. Expenses are reimbursed and reasonable adjustments are available.

Trustee recruitment can sometimes feel intimidating, if you care about supporting unpaid carers and believe you could make a positive contribution, they would love to hear from you, even if you do not see yourself as a “typical Trustee”.

How to apply:

Please send either:

  • A written statement of up to three sides of A4; or
  • A short video or audio recording.

Please explain why you are interested, what you would bring to the Board and how you connect with their mission and values.

Applications should be sent to Vikki Wilkinson at vikkiwilkinson@carerssupport.org. You can also contact Vikki Wilkinson if you would like an informal conversation about the role.
